Hellooooo Beautiful People!

It's that special, joyous time of year again ... Black History Month!! This is a time where we individually and collectively reflect on and celebrate the incredible magnitude of Black History in America and beyond. At this time more than ever, it feel all the more urgent and pressing to be intentional and unrelenting when it comes to sharing the amazing contributions of our ancestors, those known and unkown, named and unnamed. It is our responsibility, as Black people and welcome allies, to shout loud and proud about the regal grandeur of Black History!

We are all aware that the current administration is, at best indifferent and at worst hostile, towards people of color. Whether you support our current leadership or not, we all know that to be true, whether it is admitted privately or publicly. I don't need to see inside someone's heart to perceive their intentions; no, I need only look to their actions and the fruit they bear. The rotting, poisonous "fruit" is clear for all who choose to bear witness. Therefore, it is absolutely imperative that we counteract the stench of hateful wrongdoing with the glorious scent of loving goodness. As the Word says, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." ROMANS 12:21 NIV. Never underestimate the power of a good work done in love! Its impact reverberates far beyond our comprehension.

Please join me in marking this month (the shortest in the year *cue eye roll*) by being purposeful in our well-doing. When you read about something worrying or depressing, PRAY. Do not just stew in negativity...speak life over yourself, others, and our country. When you feel like giving up, REST. Honor the whispers from your body, mind, and Spirit. When you feel enraged, ORGANIZE. Find a petition to sign, a protest to attend, a political leader to call/email, or an organization where you can donate. Importantly, come November, VOTE.

I promise you that we are not helpless or defeated, far from it. I, for one, know that we have the Victory in Jesus!! Channel the encouragement from this month to choose joy. We honor our ancestors by savoring each day as it comes while making a better world for our children to inherit, just like they did. Imagine where we would be if they had given up ... it's simply unfathomable. No progress simply happens, rather it is hard-fought and well-earned. Let's lift our heads and pull our shoulders back as we celebrate Black History Month by resting, rejoicing, reading our Bibles, and getting active politically. Let us honor our beloved ancestors not just in words but by our deeds also. WE GOT THIS! And, it's because we got each other; and most importantly, God's got us!!
